Pian delle Vigne 2019 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is an exceptional expression of Sangiovese, produced on the historic Pian delle Vigne estate owned by the Antinori family. Located 6 km southwest of Montalcino, the estate covers 184 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines, exposed mainly to the southwest. This Brunello embodies the large barrel philosophy, which preserves the integrity of the fruit and gives the wine a vibrant elegance.
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a spring with above-average temperatures, followed by a hot but never excessive summer season. Excellent temperature ranges and well-distributed rainfall created ideal conditions for Sangiovese ripening. The harvest began on September 20 and was completed in the first week of October, with healthy, well-balanced grapes.
The grapes were destemmed and softly crushed, with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and maceration for 12 days at a temperature of 28 °C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for two years in oak barrels between 30 and 80 Hl in size, before continuing with a long aging in the bottle, essential to enhance its complexity.
The Pian delle Vigne estate, owned by the Antinori family since 1995, is renowned for its adherence to the tradition of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, while maintaining a strong connection to the big barrel philosophy. The first vintage was in 1995, and since then the Brunello of Pian delle Vigne has been synonymous with excellence in the Tuscan wine scene.
Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2019 shows an elegant ruby red color. On the nose, fragrances of cherry, black cherry and blood orange stand out, enriched by notes of violet, light balsamic nuances and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is fresh and savory, with silky and elegant tannins. The aftertaste is long and persistent, with pleasant citrus fruit notes and subtle spicy and vanilla aromas.
This Brunello represents the elegance of the Tuscan terroir and pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, game and aged cheeses, making it ideal for special occasions.
