The result of the interaction between Nerello Mascalese and Etna’s volcanic soils, Ghiaia Nera Tasca d’Almerita was born on terraces surrounded by chestnut and downy oak forests in an area rich in biodiversity. Soft tannins, good drinkability and freshness. It is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels, a non-invasive wood as Nerello Mascalese requires.
Ghiaia Nera 2021 is a refined interpretation of Nerello Mascalese, obtained from young vineyards located on Etna’s northern slope. The vine terraces, surrounded by chestnut and oak forests, benefit from an extraordinary biodiversity that gives the wine a unique personality. With soft tannins, good drinkability and vibrant freshness, Ghiaia Nera ages in large oak barrels, a delicate wood that respects the nature of Nerello Mascalese.
Grape varieties: 100% Nerello Mascalese, a native Sicilian grape variety that thrives on Etna’s volcanic soils, bringing complexity and character to the wine.
Vinification: Fermented at a controlled temperature of 25-30°C for 6 days, the must undergoes full malolactic fermentation, ensuring a soft, round structure.
Aging: Matured for 12 months in large 25 hl oak barrels, Ghiaia Nera develops an aromatic complexity and finesse that enhance the typicality of Nerello Mascalese.
Tasting Notes: Ghiaia Nera Tasca d’Almerita has an aromatic bouquet reminiscent of wild berries, sweet spices and light mineral notes. On the palate, it offers lively freshness and soft tannins, with a long, lingering finish. Perfect for pairing with meat dishes, roasts and aged cheeses.
History and Tradition: Produced on the slopes of Mount Etna, Ghiaia Nera reflects the interaction between modern viticulture and the wild, unspoiled nature of the island. The special climatic conditions and volcanic soils give the wine a distinctive personality that tells the story and tradition of one of Sicily’s most fascinating wine territories.
